Commodities - Chill lifts gas to record levels
Both actual and forecast cold weather lifted UK gas to record high levels on Monday, pushing up other energy and CO2 prices as well.
Intraday gas prices at the UK National Balancing Point (NBP) tripled from the previous close on Monday to peak at a record
high of 255 p/th before easing off to around 220 p/th in the evening.
Colder than forecast weather and a warning of shortage of gas in the system sent both prompt and forward prices sharply up.
